Ayurveda
What is Ayurveda?
The word Ayurveda coming from Sanskrit compound ‘ayus + veda’ literally means ‘knowledge of life’ or 'science of life'. Ayus can be translated as life and Veda means knowledge.
Ayurveda is a system of medicine practiced in India for over 5000 years. Ayurveda provides both curative and preventive measures towards optimal physical, mental and spiritual well-being. This ancient Indian science of medicine is based on herbs, metals and minerals.
The system of Ayurvedic science believes that health is the result of living in harmony and balance and disease is the absence of that harmony. As such, cure is a journey from an imbalanced state to a balanced state.
So, what is that balanced state?
A lifestyle compatible with your prakrit or original nature brings harmony and absence of it brings vikrati or disharmony. This disharmony manifests itself as disease.
